Welcome to the new, improved FileSlinger(TM) Backup Blog. I’ve been a fan of WordPress for a long time, but I started the Backup Blog on Blogger and somehow never got around to transferring it until the pressure to re-do my whole website became too great. (That pressure came mostly from having outdated information about services I no longer offer on the site.)
I did the theme design in a handy program called Artisteer, with a few tweaks so that I could have separate designs for static pages and blog pages, then added in a number of handy plugins to take care of everything from the backup poll on the home page to Google AdSense to spam filtering to posting backup bookmarks from my Delicious account to (surprise!) backups. One of the great ironies about my using Blogger is that it doesn’t have backups built in. With WordPress, I can get a backup of the database containing my posts e-mailed to me every week—or more often. Given my frequency of posting, once a week is probably sufficient.
Since I was moving everything around anyway, I’m also changing e-mail newsletter providers over to FeedBlitz, which automatically creates newsletters from my blog posts. This saves me some work, and besides, it’s free.
The changes make it easier for me to write the blog and edit the website, but they should also make the site more useful for readers. Take a look around and let me know if you find any errors or have any suggestions.
